The Coteau-du-Lac National Historic Site will open its doors from June 18 to September 5, 2016 for a new season. Visitors will discover a site with a history spanning 7,000 years that was an encampment location used by First Nations, a military fortification, and the first lock canal in Canada.

Activities and special events will dazzle young and old alike and offer the perfect opportunity to enjoy the beautiful landscape and the rich history of the site. Planned events include the return of the farmers’ market every Saturday, Canada Day festivities, and Parks Day and Archaeology Month activities.

Major restoration work to the blockhouse, the site’s iconic building, will start August 28, 2016. The work will allow to preserve this important military structure, a reminder of our history.

As we near the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the Government of Canada invites Canadians to experience Canada’s remarkable natural heritage and rich history in national parks and national historic sites this summer.
