June 23, 2016                            Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario                                        Parks Canada Agency

Parks Canada is offering a series of summer day camps at Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site for children between the ages of 6 and 12. Youth will engage in fun and interactive programming centered on scientific, technological, environmental and historical aspects of this iconic destination. Camps for children aged 6 to 8 will run July 12 and 19, while 9 to 12-year-olds can attend camps on July 14 and 21.

Youth participating in this innovative program will experience the outdoors and learn about Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site’s environment and history. Program leaders will guide tours of the grounds and provide exclusive access to some of the century-old buildings on site. Whether walking along the world-famous St. Mary’s River Rapids or meeting the lockmaster for a demonstration of how the lock operates, camp activities provide a unique opportunity for participants to experience Canada’s heritage.

The camps run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. The cost is $31.90 per child, per day, and all participants are asked to bring a picnic-style lunch. Parents or guardians interested in enrolling their children can do so by telephone at 705-941-6205, or in person at the Visitor Centre at 1 Canal Drive in Sault Ste. Marie. Registration is limited with a deadline of June 28, 2016.
