Parks Canada Announces New Activities at Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve for 2016

Starting on June 13, Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve will welcome visitors for the 2016 season.
This year, Parks Canada is continuing to improve its visitor offer with even more innovative and educational events and activities as well as new investments in visitor facilities. At Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve, Parks Canada is introducing new activities, making 2016 the perfect time to experience the outdoors and learn more about our flora and fauna as well as our history.
New this summer, the boreal hike will make it possible to discover île Quarry and to taste products made of local edible plants. There will also be a special activity, Mingan Archipelago: witness to a great nation - Uinuau innuat nikan ka taht nete ekuanitshiu-minishtikut, presented in collaboration with the Maison de la culture innue. Visitors will learn about Innu traditions and culture.
Not to be missed, on August 8 Florent Volant will give an intimate concert on Petite île au Marteau. Other special events will take place on the island, including a family picnic on July 17 and an evening of discussions on
August 10. Finally, many will be pleased to learn the return of the capailloux hike, a drama activity to learn about the fascinating life of the lighthouse keepers.
Last year’s investment of nearly one million dollars in visitor infrastructure such as docks and walkways as well as signs and telecommunication equipment, will ensure the quality and reliability of visitor facilities and continue to allow Canadians to connect with nature.
National parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas represent the very best that Canada has to offer. Developing new and innovative programs and services is one way that Parks Canada helps more Canadians, including youth and newcomers, discover and enjoy one of the finest and most extensive systems of protected areas in the world.
As we near the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the Government of Canada invites Canadians to experience Canada’s remarkable natural heritage and rich history at national parks and national historic sites this summer.
Quick Facts
- Starting June 13, daily activities will be offered on several islands of the archipelago. Join the Parks Canada interpreters to discover every aspects of the islands.
- The boreal hike will take place every Wednesday from July 13 to August 17.
- The capailloux hike will be offered every Saturday from July 16 to August 13.
- You like to explore at your own pace? It’s possible to visit some islands of the archipelago autonomously. On the trails or along the coastline, take in every moment and discover unusual natural sculptures while admiring the breathtaking scenery.
- To complete your stay, be sure to visit the exhibit in the foghorn building on Île aux Perroquets as well as the other exhibits located in the Havre-Saint-Pierre and Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan information and interpretation centres.
- Various accommodation options are available if you wish to spend the night on an island of the Mingan Archipelago. - In the fall, six international cruise ships will dock at Havre-Saint-Pierre. Rendez Vous Minganie and its partners, including Parks Canada, will welcome more than 3,000 cruise passengers during the season. Join us for a memorable farewell ceremony!
