News Release
The Sir George-Étienne Cartier National Historic opens its doors for a new season
June 7, 2016 Montreal, Québec Parks Canada Agency
The Sir George-Étienne Cartier National Historic Site will open its doors from June 18 to September 5, 2016 for a new season. Visitors are invited to discover the residence of Sir Cartier, the only location in Montreal open to the public where you can discover an intact Victorian interior.
Lawyer, politician, businessman, Sir George-Étienne Cartier was one of the main architects of Confederation. His dream of making Montreal the trading-hob of British North America accelerated the development of railways and industrialisation. His career, which visitors will discover during their visit, is synonymous with change and progress.
As part of the temporary exhibit A land of dreams under construction, visitors are invited to share their vision of an ideal country by completing sentences inspired by Cartier’s legacy, and to then immortalize their vision using a photo booth. In addition, the testimonies will be used to create the content of the new exhibit Dream a Country that will be launched next year to mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation.
As we near this important anniversary, the Government of Canada invites Canadians to experience Canada’s remarkable natural heritage and rich history in national parks and national historic sites this summer.
