Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site

The Battle of the Restigouche National Historic Site commemorates the last naval battle of the Seven Years’ War in North American waters. The interpretation centre lets you relive the last naval combat between France and Great Britain for possession of North America and admire the last remains of the shipwrecked Machault, which had been underwater for more than 200 years. This 26-gun military sailing vessel, charged with protecting French merchant ships against the English, is one of only three French frigates from the 18th century discovered to date in the world. The exhibit allows visitors to enter the tween deck and the meeting room to get a glimpse of life aboard the ship. What was the precious cargo destined for New France? It’s a mystery…

Forillon National Park

Located at the extreme northeast end of the Gaspé Peninsula, Forillon National Park is a mountainous peninsula that borders on the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Bay of Gaspé. The park protects a remarkable biodiversity. Its boreal forest is home to a diversified array of easily-observable wildlife. Its steep cliffs are home to thousands of marine birds and several colonies of seals live on its shores. Its grandiose landscapes and rocks tell part of the planet’s fascinating history. The territory is composed of four large ecosystems: aquatic, coastal, marine and forest. For thousands of years, men and women have inhabited the Forillon Peninsula: Mi’kmaq, fishers, cod merchants, whale hunters, lighthouse keepers, etc. Forillon National Park tells their fascinating stories!
