Parks Canada will host a special military encampment program at Signal Hill National Historic Site from August 12th to 14th to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Beaumont Hamel and share the story of the Newfoundland Regiment. “After Beaumont Hamel – Rebuilding the Newfoundland Regiment” will tell the story of how the Regiment was reformed after the tragic battle. Over the three day event, visitors will experience live performances, tactical demonstrations, and see first-hand how soldiers and support units lived and trained.

The encampment will take place on the grounds alongside the Signal Hill Visitor Centre, and will include Parks Canada staff, military animators, and re-enactment groups from across Canada. Throughout the weekend there will be interpretive activities and demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as several military performances. Saturday evening will feature a very special presentation of The Fighting Newfoundlander by the Signal Hill Tattoo.

National historic sites reflect the rich and varied heritage of our nation and provide an opportunity for Canadians to learn more about our diverse history. As we near the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the Government of Canada invites Canadians to experience and learn more about our environment and our heritage.
