Islanders and visitors are invited to celebrate Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, a fun-filled event for the entire family, taking place on the Robinsons Island Trail System in Prince Edward Island National Park on Saturday October 1, between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Developed by the International Mountain Biking Association, the goal of Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is to foster a connection between kids and the natural world around them.
Exciting mountain bike demonstrations and clinics will take place throughout the afternoon. Have you ever tried a pump track or ridden a teeter totter? Watch the experts at work and maybe give it a try. Mountain biking experts from Cycling PEI, Sporting Intentions, MacQueen’s, and Outer Limit Sports will be on hand to lead demonstrations and technical features clinics. There will also be a chance to win prizes through the Cycling PEI/Parks Canada trail etiquette challenge.
This event will also mark the unveiling of new interpretive panels along the Robinsons Island Trail System, which highlight the rich natural and cultural heritage of the area.
Designed for hikers and cyclists alike, the Robinsons Island Trail System has gained a great deal of popularity since it opened in 2014.The system is a 6 km stacked loop highlighted by picturesque lookouts and new beach access points. Branching out from the main trail are a number of spurs equipped with beginner and intermediate level technical mountain-biking features that were developed in collaboration with Cycling PEI.
Canada’s national parks are gateways to nature, adventure, and discovery. Events such as Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day allow more Canadians, including youth and newcomers, to experience the outdoors and learn about our environment and our history.
Quick Facts
- Set against the stunning backdrop of PEI’s north shore, PEI National Park offers a trail network over 50 km in length. - The International Mountain Bicycling Association (Canada) is a non-profit association whose mission is to create, enhance and preserve great trail experiences for mountain bikers throughout Canada.
