Fundy National Park is celebrating Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, on Saturday, October 1, as part of the Fundy Bike Fest, a multi-day bike celebration happening in the region. Developed by the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA), the goal of Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is to foster a connection between kids and the natural world around them.
At Fundy National Park, the Fundy Bike Fest will feature a family friendly group bike ride and a fat bike demonstration. The festival is suitable for all abilities and ages and is organized in collaboration with the IMBA, Outdoor Elements, and the Elgin Eco Association. The weekend kicks off with a hands-on IMBA Trail building workshop on Friday, September 30 at 9 a.m. The festivities will continue into the night, with a guided mountain bike night ride on Fundy National Park’s adrenaline pumping Whitetail Trail.
On Saturday, October 1, a fleet of fat bikes will be available to try free of charge at Fundy National Park from 1 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Fat bikes are a special type of bike that accommodate a much wider tire, often ranging from 3.5 to 5 inches in width. The wider tires allow bikers to ride on a variety of terrain such as sand or snow, making it a sport that can be practiced year-round. Visitors will have a second opportunity to try out fat bikes on Sunday, October 2 at the national park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. This event will be hosted in collaboration with Outdoor Elements.
Canada’s national parks are gateways to nature, adventure and discovery. Developing new and innovative programs and services allows more Canadians, including youth and newcomers, to experience the outdoors and learn about our environment.
