Connect with Nature at Fundy National Park's Annual Christmas Bird Count

It’s for the birds on December 16

Parks Canada, in collaboration with the Fundy Guild, is hosting its Annual Christmas Bird Count on either December 21st or 22nd (TBC) in Fundy National Park. Novice and expert birding enthusiasts are welcome to participate in this important bird census.

The Annual Christmas Bird Count is one of the longest running wildlife census in the world. Over 400 sites are surveyed each year across Canada, and the event at Fundy National Park is one of 20 sites being surveyed in New Brunswick. Christmas Bird Counts are coordinated nationally by Bird Studies Canada, and data from Fundy National Park’s event will contribute to document bird species diversity and numbers across North America and the globe. 

Fundy National Park’s Annual Christmas Bird Count starts at 8 a.m. and novice birders will be paired with experts during the count. Following the count, birders are welcome to a enjoy lunch, hosted by the Fundy Guild, at the Alma Leisure Centre between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. For more information or to register, please contact Denis Doucet at (506-887-6028) or denis.doucet@pc.gc.ca.

Novice birders are also welcome to attend a free lunch and learn session on Thursday, December 15th from noon to 1 p.m. at the Salt and Fir Centre in the park. Bring your own lunch and find out more about bird identification.
