News Release
December 16, 2016 Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON Parks Canada Agency
Sharpen your skates and get ready to hit the ice because Parks Canada and Vintage Hotels Inc. are bringing free outdoor skating to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.
Starting Saturday, December 17th, young and old are invited to the Vintage-Parks Canada outdoor skating rink nestled next to the Agora at Fort George National Historic Site. This new skating rink is the coolest place in town and the only one of its kind in all of Parks Canada. Whether you are having fun with family and friends on the ice, savouring hot chocolate around the fire pits, or simply enjoying the atmosphere under the twinkling lights in one of our Red Chairs, Parks Canada and Vintage Hotels encourage Canadians to get outside and experience the great outdoors!
Parks Canada along with Vintage Hotels, who for the past 20 years has been involved in bringing many cultural and community events to the region, both form an important cornerstone of the tourism industry in Niagara-on-the-Lake, which welcomes over 2.5 million visitors each year. New programs like this allows more Canadians, including youth and newcomers, to experience the outdoors and learn about our environment and history.
As we near the 150th anniversary of Canada and the 100th anniversary of Canada’s National Historic Sites in 2017, the Government invites all Canadians to experience and learn more about our environment and our history. Canada’s national parks and national historic sites enable Canadians to experience their heritage in a special way and will play a big part in the celebration of Canada 150.
