News Release

Parks Canada offers teas, theatre and exclusive events in July and August

July 4, 2017                                           Ottawa, Ontario                       Parks Canada Agency

This summer, be an honoured guest in the official residence of two Prime Ministers! In July and August, Parks Canada is offering teas, theatre experiences and behind the scenes visits at Laurier House National Historic Site. Reserve your spot now and join a guest list that includes Shirley Temple, Sir Winston Churchill and King George VI.

Parks Canada has developed new programs at Laurier House National Historic Site to allow more Canadians to learn about our history. Beginning on July 8, National Historic Places Day, guests are invited to enjoy tea on the veranda of Laurier House just as the former Prime Ministers, Sir Wilfrid Laurier and William Lyon Mackenzie King would have. In partnership with the world-renowned Le Cordon Bleu®, a light tea and pastries are served on Saturdays throughout the summer for sittings at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Reservations are required in advance, directly through Le Cordon Bleu® Signatures Restaurant by phone at 613-236-2499 or through email contact@signaturesrestaurant.com.

On four evenings in July, guests are invited to take part in Live History’s A Séance in Time interactive, clue-based theatre. Guests are summoned to join Prime Minister Mackenzie King as he and his household prepare to contact the spirit world. King seeks advice, guidance and solace as the Second World War begins and the time to build the nation is upon him. But King’s famous crystal ball has gone missing and guests must help find it before it is too late. Guests can take part in this theatrical challenge on July 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th. Reservations for evening theatre can be made by contacting Laurier House at 613-992-8142.

To explore the less travelled areas of the historic mansion, guests can sign up for a White Glove Tour. This visit takes guests behind the barriers to handle original artefacts that once belonged to Prime Ministers Sir Wilfrid Laurier and William Lyon Mackenzie King. These intimate tours allow Canadians to get in touch with history, cost $22.00 per person, and must be reserved in advance.
