As Canadians mark the 150th anniversary of Confederation this year, it is also time to celebrate the 100th anniversary of national historic sites in Canada.

Join us at Green Gables Heritage Place on July 8th for a fun-filled day in celebration of the Parks Canada places that preserve our country’s history and heritage. The festivities begin with Story Time in French at 10 a.m., and in English at 10:30 a.m. From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., children can participate in My National Historic Site, an arts and crafts activity to draw, colour, and share the special places in their lives. There will also be guided talks of the site throughout the day on the hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in English, and 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in French. Games and races will take place from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., with ice cream included! Anne herself will also be on site and period costumes will be available for visitors to try on for a great photo opportunity.

Parks Canada offers visitors 171 remarkable and inspiring places where they can explore our nation’s history and heritage. This year’s FREE 2017 Discovery Pass allows Canadians and international visitors alike to visit Parks Canada’s national historic sites, as well as national parks, and marine conservation areas, for free.

Canada’s list of national designations continues to grow, reflecting the rich heritage of our country and providing opportunities for Canadians to learn more about our diversity, including the history, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples.

Parks Canada is encouraging visitors to plan their trips and discover new and exciting destinations in 2017 by consulting Parks Canada’s website, or downloading the NEW Parks Canada Mobile App, for a list of hidden gems and other unique and memorable ways to celebrate Canada 150.
