June 13, 2017 Louisbourg, NS Parks Canada Agency
Parks Canada’s Outreach Team will be travelling to community events and celebrations all across Cape Breton and Canso this summer. This year, they will be promoting new and innovative programs to encourage more Canadians, including youth, newcomers, and families, to experience the outdoors and learn more about our environment, our history and experience Canada’s rich heritage.
Events where you can find the Parks Canada Outreach Team this summer include Table Head Days, Cape Breton Library Series, Kidspree, Sydney Pride Parade, and Mi’kmaw Mawiomi.
The team will encourage visitors to take the road less travelled and discover hidden gems in Cape Breton Highlands National Park and the five national historic sites in the area. Hike the Lighthouse Trail, the site of the first lighthouse in Canada at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, enjoy the captivating view of the Bras d’Or Lake from our rooftop patio at Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site or visit beautiful Neil’s Harbour Beach in Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
The Outreach Team contributes to increasing awareness, appreciation and support of Parks Canada’s special places by connecting, engaging, and interacting with youth, young families and new Canadians. One way the team will be connecting with the public is through our new Parks Canada Trivial Wheel, which has multiple questions on each site across Cape Breton and Canso, along with special categories for Canada 150 and the Centennial of Canada’s National Historic Sites.
Parks Canada is encouraging visitors to plan their trips and discover new and exciting destinations in 2017 by consulting Parks Canada’s website, or downloading the NEW Parks Canada Mobile App, for a list of hidden gems and other unique and memorable ways to celebrate Canada 150.
