Backgrounder

La Mauricie National Park

La Mauricie National Park is a remarkable example of Laurentian landscape marked by a human presence, including the passage of Indigenous peoples, dating back more than 5,000 years. Covering an area of 536 km2, the size of the Island of Montreal, La Mauricie National Park contains 150 lakes, ponds, and bogs as well as many watersheds that support a diversity of habitats for flora and fauna. In 2020, the park will celebrate 50 years of action in conservation and opportunities for its 180,000 annual visitors to get closer to nature during all seasons.

Roadway Rehabilitation of the Parkway - Phase 3
Budget: $28.2 M
Project Description: The purpose of this project is to complete the necessary roadway rehabilitation work over 52.9 km of the Parkway, the park’s main road.


The Forges du Saint-Maurice National Historic Site

First steel industry of Canada, and also first industrial village of the country, the Forges du Saint-Maurice catered for the settlers and the soldiers’ needs. Stoves, boilers, nails, anvils, ploughshares, vehicle wheels, sawmill mechanisms and weaponry equipment, the blast furnace and the two forges will operate during 150 years.

Visitor service infrastructure recapitalisation at the Forges du Saint-Maurice
Budget: $815 K
Project Description: The purpose of this project is to improve the visitor experience quality with the replacement of the ventilation, heating, and air conditioning systems of both visitor buildings: the Grande Maison (ironmasters’ house) and the blast furnace. This project will also ensure the preservation of the built heritage through the repairing works of significant seepage.
