Parks Canada celebrates at an ultimate Canada 150 wrap party at ICEtravaganza!
News Release
December 30, 2017 Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario Parks Canada Agency
During the 150th anniversary of Confederation, Parks Canada welcomed visitors from across the country and around the world to our country’s natural and cultural heritage places.
Today, Chris Bittle, Member of Parliament for St. Catharines, celebrated the success of Canada 150 at the ICEstravaganza wrap-up party at Fort George National Historic Site. The ICEtravaganza was a day-long family friendly event with a whole line-up of fun activities at the Parks Canada-Vintage Hotels rink, the Agora and Fort George National Historic Site. Visitors were able to get active, experience the outdoors, and connect with our shared history. To wrap the 150 anniversary of Confederation year, items were placed in a special Canada 150 time capsule that will be opened during Canada’s Bicentennial.
With the Government of Canada’s invitation to Canadians to experience the outdoors and learn more about our heritage with free admission in 2017, this year has resulted in record visitation numbers across Parks Canada’s network where we welcomed approximately 28 million visitors to national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas.
Millions of Canadians have been celebrating Canada 150 with free admission to Parks Canada’s places in 2017. For 2018 and beyond, Parks Canada will make discovering nature easier and more affordable for families with free admission for youth 17 and under. By making admission free for youth 17 and under, Canada is celebrating families and the importance of our protected areas.
The 2018 Parks Canada Discovery Pass is now on sale and is a great value, providing access to our national treasures all year long. For information on purchasing the 2018 Parks Canada Discovery Pass, please visit the Parks Canada website.

“ICEtravaganza is the perfect way for families and friends to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Confederation. The government will continue to celebrate families with free admission to all Parks Canada’s places for youth 17 and under in 2018 and beyond. By building these personal connections to our places, we are fostering the stewards of tomorrow – people who know and care about these irreplaceable treasures.”
Chris Bittle,
Member of Parliament for St. Catharines
"Our organization is so fortunate to have Parks Canada as a National Trails Partner across the country and I am thrilled that the Great Trail in Ontario passes next to Fort George National Historic Site, a truly significant national treasure. Please come back every year for the next fifty years and enjoy this amazing experience. We can't wait until Canada's Bicentennial when we will open up our time capsule after 50 years and celebrate our new accomplishments together."
