Government of Canada celebrates the national historic significance of John Macoun

Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada as well as Member of Parliament for Ottawa-Centre, Catherine McKenna, will take part in a Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada plaque unveiling ceremony to commemorate the national historic significance of John Macoun.

A field naturalist and scientist, John Macoun was the first to survey, document, and categorize Canadian flora in a systematic manner. He devoted his life to collecting botanical specimens that later formed the core of Canada’s national collection.
