Whether you’re looking for adventure, fun science activities for the whole family, a chance to explore history, or a break from the everyday, Parks Canada has 450 000 km² of protected areas with countless unique experiences to suit your needs.

Starting June 22, the Louis S. St-Laurent National Historic Site will officially open for the 2019 visitor season. Experience the 1950s as you visit the house and general store that highlight the life and work of former Canadian Prime Minister Louis S. St-Laurent. Parks Canada invites visitors to let themselves be charmed by the site and the attractions of the lovely village of Compton.

Here are some activities that will please everyone, from youngest to wisest:

·        To celebrate Canada Day on July 1, admission will be free and a cake will be served in the garden, starting at 1 p.m.

·        On July 7, starting at 11 a.m., you can enjoy the Country Fair. Come learn about the crafts of traditional artisans and be entertained by a storyteller, a clown, and a harmonica player.

·        On July 14, 21 and 28 as well as on August 18, free concerts will be presented in the garden from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The concerts are made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Compagnons du lieu historique national Louis-S.-St-Laurent and the municipality’s contribution.

·        On August 4, checkered tablecloths will be rolled out on tables for families who want to enjoy a picnic before the Théâtre de Deux Mains puppet show, which will start at 1:30 p.m.

·        On October 5 and 6, the national historic site will be open specifically for the popular Virée gourmande des Comptonales event. On these days, admission to the general store and garden will be free.

At the Louis S. St-Laurent National Historic Site, visitors can watch history come to life by walking through the doors of the authentic general store where merchandise include whalebone corsets, chamber pots, and washboards, and where people are talking around the stove! Visit our website for a complete schedule and to plan your visit. Discover the events that have shaped Canada’s past, present and future!

Parks Canada places belong to all Canadians. That is why the Government of Canada is pleased to continue to offer free admission to all Parks Canada’s places for youth aged 17 and under. By encouraging young people to discover nature and connect with history, we can help to inspire the next generation of stewards for these protected places.

Parks Canada staff at the Louis S. St-Laurent National Historic Site are excited to welcome new and returning guests to experience everything that this charming site has to offer.
