Strategic environmental and economic assessments at PrairiesCan
The Cabinet Directive on Strategic Environmental and Economic Assessments (SEEAs) started on April 1, 2024. It requires any proposal that goes to Cabinet, creates new rules or policies, or asks for government funding must include a SEEA.
The goal of the SEEA is to look at how a proposal might affect the environment and the economy. A useful SEEA helps reduce negative impacts and increases positive ones.
This assessment does not replace other reviews that might be needed for specific projects under other laws.
If PrairiesCan is leading a proposal or funding request, it must complete a SEEA review. If a detailed review is needed, a short public summary will be written. This summary will explain what the proposal is about and what the SEEA found. It will be shared on the PrairiesCan website within two months of the proposal being announced or starting.
