Minister Goodale attends RCMP Youth Leadership Workshop

Statement

REGINA, Saskatchewan, February 10, 2016 – Today, the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued the following statement at the conclusion of his visit at the RCMP’s Youth Leadership Workshop, RCMP Academy “Depot” Division in Regina:

“I am very proud of the RCMP for providing youth and police officers alike with this leadership workshop. This learning opportunity allows participants to identify youth crime and victimization issues in their communities, build leadership skills through interactive training sessions and develop action plans to address identified issues.

This year’s workshop will empower youth to get involved in issues related to Indigenous communities across Canada.

I believe that establishing and maintaining positive relationships between our youth and Canada’s national police force is at the centre of our ongoing commitment to enhance youth engagement in preventing crime.

Youth play an integral role in shaping the future of our communities and taking part in this workshop is an excellent first step in the right direction.

Our government is proud to support this initiative as we have seen first-hand its positive and influential impact on our youth and their relationship with their peers.”
