Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair speaks to Quebec Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Andrée Laforest on Quebec rail blockades
Statement
OTTAWA – February 23, 2020 – Yesterday, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair spoke to Quebec Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Andrée Laforest to discuss ongoing work to end the rail blockades affecting Quebec and resume business along the rail line.
Minister Blair stated that he appreciated the measured and effective approach taken by the police in Quebec in their removal of barricades near Montreal and hoped all blockades could be removed peaceably. He expressed confidence that police in Quebec and elsewhere across Canada could successfully keep the peace while ensuring a lasting resolution that would return the rail system to full functionality.
Both Ministers agreed to continue to work together and stay in contact in the coming days.
