Senior executive re-appointments to the Parole Board of Canada

Statement

OTTAWA – December 1, 2022 – Today, the Honourable Marco Mendicino, Minister of Public Safety, issued the following statement:

"I am pleased to announce the re-appointment of Ms. Jennifer Oades as Chairperson of the Parole Board of Canada (PBC) for a second term. Ms. Oades was first appointed as Chairperson on January 31, 2018. Previous to that, she had served as Deputy Commissioner for Women with Correctional Service Canada and Executive Director of the International Corrections and Prisons Association. Ms. Oades brings over 30 years of knowledge, experience and leadership in corrections to the position. The appointment is for a term of five years and is effective as of January 31, 2023.

I am also pleased to announce the re-appointment of Ms. Sylvie Blanchet as Executive Vice-Chairperson for a second term of five years, effective January 3, 2023. Ms. Blanchet was first appointed as Executive Vice-Chairperson on January 3, 2018. She was previously the Regional Director General of the PBC's Atlantic Region, and an Assistant Warden at the Westmorland Institution in Dorchester, N.B.

The Parole Board of Canada is an independent administrative tribunal that plays an important role in keeping our communities safe. Most importantly, it supports the safe and effective reintegration of offenders into our communities as law-abiding citizens."
