CSIS Director Statement regarding the raising of the CSIS flags

Statements

Ottawa, December 21, 2016 - The Director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), Michel Coulombe, issued the following statement following a ceremony to raise the new CSIS flags at the national headquarters building:

“I am pleased to help raise our official CSIS flags, which will stand proud at the front entrance of our national headquarters building, surrounding our Canadian flag. Symbols and crests often serve to unite organizations, giving employees a visual commonality, a sense of belonging. Our organization is no exception.

It was in July, 1984, that our CSIS crest was created when we became a publicly recognized intelligence organization. Over the years, our crest has become a recognizable and respected national emblem, in our country and around the world.

Much of the work we do is confidential; however, our flag will act as an important symbol and public reminder that CSIS employees are proud of our role in keeping Canada safe.”
