Advancing application hosting with the GC Hosting Services Portal

Shared Services Canada (SSC) is committed to improving hosting services and meeting the requirements of the Application Hosting Strategy. In line with this, SSC has made significant progress in several areas, including the launch of the GC Hosting Services Portal and the introduction of GC Cloud One.

Introducing the GC Hosting Services Portal

SSC is proud to release the GC Hosting Services Portal, which represents an evolution of the previous GC Cloud Services portal used by our partners and clients since 2019. This new portal offers a streamlined intake process for cloud service requests, providing GC organizations with a better user experience. Notably, this includes centralized catalogues for cloud services, allowing for easy comparison between providers, improved search options and an enhanced personalized account dashboard. Detailed guides and support are readily accessible through the portal, ensuring a consistent and sustainable approach to application hosting across the GC.

Launching GC Cloud One

SSC has also launched the initial version of GC Cloud One. By leveraging approved providers, GC Cloud One offers platforms for public cloud application hosting, as well as sandbox and experimentation environments. GC Cloud One is now accessible through the GC Hosting Services Portal for SSC partners and clients.

SSC takes care of connectivity, security, maintenance, and compliance with standards, enabling developers to concentrate on building and running their applications.

Future plans for GC Cloud One include expanding to offer private-cloud and hybrid hosting options, aiming to meet the diverse needs of GC organizations while maintaining a unified platform.

Engaging stakeholders in the Application Hosting Strategy

GC organizations play a crucial role in shaping the Application Hosting Strategy. SSC, in collaboration with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, actively engages stakeholders through various avenues. This includes CIO roundtables, data gathering exercises, and sessions focused on portal development and related tools. The continuous feedback and collaboration ensure that digital solutions for application hosting within the GC align with the needs of government departments, agencies, and employees.

In addition, SSC maintains an open dialogue with industry stakeholders. This involves facilitating information sessions for cloud service providers, hosting industry days, working sessions to enhance framework agreements, and organizing procurement discovery sessions and webinars. By partnering with industry, stakeholders have the opportunity to actively contribute to shaping and refining the government’s approach to application hosting.
