Modernizing the passport issuance system through collaboration

The Government of Canada is modernizing its passport program and services. For one of these modernizations initiatives, Shared Services Canada (SSC), Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and Service Canada worked together to create an updated system for passport officers to input and manage incoming passport applications.

This system modernizes how we issue passports in Canada by:

  • enhancing the efficiency of the Passport Program
  • strengthening the integrity and security
  • expanding access to passport services to Canadians

SSC provided the infrastructure, ensured network capacity, and conducted rigorous testing to ensure the system’s performance and stability.

“This initiative has led to meaningful service improvements for Canadians by modernizing the passport system through collaboration across departments.”

Pemi Gill
Assistant Deputy Minister of Service Delivery at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada

What’s next?

SSC will continue to work with GC partners to modernize passport services for citizens abroad. Ongoing collaboration and innovation promise continued advancement for passport services both domestically and internationally.
