Shared Services Canada supports the Royal Canadian Mounted Police during high-profile events

Since 2011, Shared Services Canada (SSC) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have worked together during important events across the country. Whether for a special guest visit or a high-profile event, SSC delivers digital programs and services to meet the RCMP’s requirements.

In past years, SSC supported the RCMP during events like Canada’s 150th anniversary and dignitaries’ visits, including members of the Royal Family.

This past summer, SSC and the RCMP worked together to ensure Pope Francis’s security during his visit to Canada. In late July, Pope Francis travelled to several remote locations near Edmonton, Québec and Iqaluit.

To prepare, the RCMP asked for greater network capabilities at unified command centres and sites across the country. Within a very short time, SSC teams:

“This effort underlines the integral role SSC plays in policing, enabling the RCMP’s important contribution to the safety of Canadians and the security of distinguished guests to Canada.”

Brendan Dunne, Assistant Deputy Minister, Client Service Delivery and Management, National Defence and Policing Branch, SSC

SSC provided 24/7 on-site specialists during Pope Francis’s visit to ensure the RCMP members had full connectivity to fulfill their mission‑critical policing and operations capabilities.

“The RCMP was pleased with SSC’s support throughout the event, which highlighted the success of our partnership in an operational context and the importance of the collaborative relationship we have come to expect and trust.”

Jason Sohm, Acting Chief Information Officer, Information Management and Information Technology Program, RCMP
