Meeting spaces (conferencing)

Through a secure and accessible Government of Canada-wide approach, Shared Services Canada (SSC) ensures employees have the digital tools they need to collaborate seamlessly from anywhere. To support collaboration across government, we deliver modern conferencing tools that are cost-effective, standardized and integrated across hybrid digital workspaces.

SSC is working with its partners to install, support, maintain and upgrade technology and the GC network to improve performance and capabilities in meeting spaces. This involves creating standardized meeting space service offerings and options supported by the Enterprise Service Model. These include the following:

  • Meeting Space (MS) – provides meeting spaces with a combination of modern, standardized, robust and secure endpoints (equipment and components)
    • Option 1: Hybrid Meeting Solutions – uses Microsoft 365 cloud infrastructure and Teams-certified equipment and associated audio-visual equipment
    • Option 2: Cloud-based Videoconferencing plus Cloud Video Interoperability (VC+CVI) – facilitates connections from traditional VC endpoints to M365-hosted Teams meetings
  • Canada Conferencing Service (CCS) – provides conferencing via Cisco WebEx
  • Video for Senior Officials (VfSO) – provides Secret-certified video conferencing

SSC is working closely with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat and Public Services and Procurement Canada to enhance the One GC enterprise approach in support of the hybrid work model.

What SSC is doing across the Government of Canada

  • SSC is ensuring users have a common digital experience across the government with full access to a standardized core bundle of tools from any GC-approved device
  • SSC is implementing video interoperability that will allow meeting rooms with traditional or modern conferencing devices to connect to MS Teams meetings
  • SSC is upgrading or replacing devices to ensure that meeting spaces conform with the newly defined guidelines for conferencing services, which include accessible and reliable conferencing capabilities
  • SSC is maximizing the effectiveness and value of conferencing technology across the government, as well as improving the service experience of all users by continuously improving service delivery
