Open House and Opportunity to Attend STRATOS Campaign Balloon Launches

Media advisory

Longueuil, Quebec, August 21, 2018 — On August 22 and 23, the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) will be hosting a number of activities as part of its STRATOS campaign. A delegation from the Centre national d’études spatiales (CNES) led by its President, Jean-Yves Le Gall, will accompany the CSA delegation represented onsite by its President, Sylvain Laporte, to take part in a series of briefings and activities including a balloon launch.

STRATOS is the CSA's stratospheric balloon program. It provides Canadian universities and businesses with an opportunity to test and validate new technology and perform scientific experiments in a near-space environment.

A stratospheric balloon will be launched at the Timmins Base carrying experiments designed by Canadian teams.

Local Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) summer camp students and media will be able to attend workshops and tour the launch and control sites. Krishna Nair, a Grade 8 student invited by the CSA, will also launch the Project Taurus weather balloon she developed as part of a school assignment earlier this year.

Media representatives are invited to attend the activities listed below.
