New details for the unveiling of the first science images from the James Webb Space Telescope

Longueuil, Quebec,  — This week, NASA, in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the European Space Agency (ESA), will release the James Webb Space Telescope's first full-colour science images and spectroscopic data. The official release of images and data will showcase Webb's full science capabilities, including those of Webb's Canadian instrument, NIRISS.

, the President of the United States Joe Biden will release one of Webb's first science images in a preview event at the White House in Washington. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson will provide remarks. A live stream of the event will be available on NASA TV. The image will be available on the CSA website.

On Tuesday, , media are invited to participate in the following activities at CSA headquarters:

  • At 9:45 a.m. ET, opening remarks by NASA, ESA and CSA leadership will air on NASA TV, the NASA app, and the agency's website. The CSA will also stream the opening remarks on site.
  • At 10:30 a.m. ET, the CSA will participate, live from the John H. Chapman Space Centre, in the broadcast of the release of the first science images and spectroscopic data.
  • At 12:30 p.m. ET, there will be a media briefing, hosted at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Media at the CSA will have the opportunity to ask questions to participants at NASA and experts will be available on site for interviews.
