The Evergreen Extension

Backgrounder

The Evergreen rapid transit extension is now open, connecting the cities of Coquitlam, Port Moody and Burnaby to Metro Vancouver’s existing SkyTrain system. By taking Evergreen, passengers can now travel by SkyTrain from Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station in Coquitlam to Lougheed Town Centre in Burnaby in approximately 15 minutes, and from Lafarge Lake-Douglas station and downtown Vancouver in 45 minutes.

  • 8,000 jobs – Generated an estimated 8,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction.
  • $1.43 billion - Funding for the Evergreen Line Project was provided through a partnership between the Government of Canada, the Government of B.C. and TransLink:
    • The Government of Canada has contributed up to $424 million ($350 million from the Building Canada Fund, $67 million from the Public Transit Capital Trust Fund, and $7 million from the P3 Canada Fund),
    • The Government of B.C. has contributed $586 million, with other partners contributing $21 million.
    • TransLink has contributed and will operate the system.
  • $70-85 million – The projected amount that the Evergreen Line Project will be under budget compared to the $1.4 billion budget set in 2008.
  • 250,000 – The number of people who travel each day between Coquitlam, Port Moody, Port Coquitlam and Burnaby/New Westminster and downtown Vancouver.
  • 11 kilometres – The length of the Evergreen extension to the existing 85 kilometre SkyTrain system in Metro Vancouver.
  • 15 minutes – Evergreen will provide, frequent and convenient SkyTrain service, connecting Coquitlam City Centre through Port Moody to Lougheed Town Centre in about 15 minutes.
  • 80 km/hour – The train’s maximum operating speed.
  • 7 stations (6 new stations and the expansion of the existing Lougheed Town Centre Station), serving the cities of Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam.
  • 70,000 – The number of passengers the Evergreen Line will carry per day by 2021.
  • 23 per cent – The expected population increase of Vancouver’s downtown peninsula by 2021.
  • 9 per cent – The expected population increase of the City of Coquitlam by 2021.
