Government of Canada to mark National Aviation Day with events in Ottawa

Ottawa, Ontario — February 22, 2017
Members of the media are invited to attend two events in Ottawa on February 23 to mark National Aviation Day.
8:30 a.m. - Minister Garneau will participate in a news conference related to aviation safety. Minister Garneau will be joined by Karen McCrimmon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, Mario Harel, Gatineau Police Chief and President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, Ontario Provincial Police Deputy Commissioner Brad Blair and Captain Dan Adamus, President, Air Line Pilots Association Canada, who will deliver short remarks and answer questions from the media.

10:00 a.m. - Karen McCrimmon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, will deliver a keynote speech related to aviation safety at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum on behalf of the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Transport, and will participate in the Canada 150 celebration of flight on National Aviation Day.

Canada 150 celebration of flight
Transport Canada and the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum invite students and the general public to take part in a special Canada 150 celebration of flight, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Flight experts will be on site to talk about their role in the aviation field. Visitors will have the opportunity to visit two aircraft.
Transport Canada will have several displays set up, each one focusing on keeping our skies safe. Canadians will have the opportunity to learn about UAVs, laser strikes, cabin and passenger safety, electronic safety and lithium ion batteries, and dangerous goods.
