The Airport Relief Fund is a new contribution funding program to provide $64.8 million in financial relief to Canada’s airports that are struggling with the financial impact of reduced air travel due to the COVID‑19 pandemic. The Airport Relief Fund will provide immediate financial assistance to targeted eligible airports to help maintain operations and mitigate the risk of airport insolvency.

The following airports have been identified as eligible for funding from the Airport Relief Fund:

  • Abbotsford International Airport
  • Kelowna International Airport
  • Prince George Airport

  • Regina International Airport
  • Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport
  • Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport

The allocation of funding will consider each airport’s regional importance and strategic significance within Canada’s system of airports. The amount of funding will be calculated using a tiered approach, based on 2019 revenues, as follows:

  • Airports with 2019 revenues between $100 million and $250 million will receive a base amount of $5 million and an additional allocation of funding equivalent to 0.5 per cent of the airport’s 2019 revenue.
  • Airports with 2019 revenues between $25 million and $100 million will receive a base amount of $1.5 million and an additional allocation of funding equivalent to 4 per cent of the airport’s 2019 revenue.
  • Airports with 2019 revenues between $10 million and $25 million will receive a base amount of $1 million and an additional allocation of funding equivalent to 4.5 per cent of the airport’s 2019 revenue.
  • Airports with 2019 revenues less than $10 million will receive a base amount of $0.5 million and an additional allocation of funding equivalent to 8.5 per cent of the airport’s 2019 revenue.
