Statement by Minister MacKinnon on the resignation of VIA Rail Canada’s President and CEO

The Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, the Honourable Steven MacKinnon, today issued the following statement:

“As Minister responsible for VIA Rail, I have accepted Mario Peloquin's resignation from the position of President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 15, 2026, in order to enjoy retirement after a 41-year career in the industry. I would like to thank Mario for his dedication and commitment to VIA Rail over the past two and a half years, and I wish him continued success in his future endeavours.”
