Vimy 100 events at the National War Memorial this weekend (April 8-9, 2017)

Ottawa, ON –The Government of Canada invites you to attend Vimy 100 events this weekend (April 8 and 9) at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. Join us as we honour and remember those who served Canada during the Battle of Vimy Ridge and the First World War.

Saturday, April 8, 2017 Join us for a beautiful evening of remembrance in the nation’s capital. This unique commemorative event will include a candlelight tribute, overnight vigil by the Royal Canadian Army Cadets, an illumination of the National War Memorial and musical performances.

Sunday, April 9, 2017 Mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge and the First World War at the Government of Canada in-Canada signature event in Ottawa. The ceremony will begin with sentries being posted at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as part of the National Sentry Program, and will be followed by the official commemorative ceremony in the presence of a Canadian Armed Forces Contingent and Central Band. The program will include musical performances, readings, a smudging ceremony and drumming performance.
