Minister of Veterans Affairs marks Mental Health Week

Statement

Ottawa, ON Today, the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, issued the following statement to recognize the Canadian Mental Health Association’s 70th anniversary of Mental Health Week, 3-9 May 2021:

“Mental Health Week plays a major role in raising awareness of the importance of mental well-being and showing us how we can all take steps to improve our own mental health.

At a time like this, it’s vitally important to acknowledge those feelings of fear, isolation, and loss that many of us might be experiencing. Too often, we tend to minimize or overlook them, and it helps to be reminded that we’re not alone, and that talking about them can really have a positive impact on our well-being. Talking about it can also give others permission to do the same. This is especially important for our Veteran community, and I hope that everyone takes some time this week to find a way to open up about how they’re truly doing.

I commend the Canadian Mental Health Association for their long history of supporting mental health initiatives. To mark the 70th anniversary of Mental Health Week, allow yourself and those around you to #GetReal about how you feel.”
