News release

The project supports Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC) Kids Program

March 7, 2025 – Whitby, ON – Minister of Veterans Affairs Canada and Associate Minister of National Defence

Canada's Veterans and their families deserve to know that they are supported by their fellow Canadians and their Government. To help achieve this, Veterans Affairs Canada provides funding to organizations to conduct research and implement projects aimed at improving the well-being of Veterans and their families, through its Veteran and Family Well-being Fund.

Today, MP Turnbull, on behalf of Honourable Darren Fisher, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, congratulated Wounded Warriors Canada on being selected to receive funding from the Veteran and Family Well-being Fund. Wounded Warriors Canada was awarded $300,000 in funding to support the expansion of their Wounded Warriors Canada Warrior Kids Program.

The Veteran and Family Well-being Fund was launched by Veterans Affairs Canada in 2018. Since then, Veterans Affairs Canada has awarded over $57 million in funding for research and innovative initiatives that support the well-being of Veterans and their families. This investment is one of several approved projects under the Veteran and Family Well-being Fund. For information on previously funded projects, see the Veterans Affairs Canada website.

Quotes

“Supporting the mental health of the children of our Veterans is essential, and this Federal investment in Wounded Warriors Canada reflects our ongoing commitment to their well-being. Through this funding, we are expanding programs that provide crucial support to families who have made tremendous sacrifices for our country.”

Ryan Turnbull, Member of Parliament for Whitby

“We often talk about the importance of supporting Veterans after their service, but real support means investing in them, today and in the future. That’s why our government is awarding this funding. Expanding access to their existing Kids Program Support, isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s smart for Canada. I’m proud to support the work of Wounded Warriors Canada as a recipient of the Veteran and Family Well-being Fund.”

The Honourable Darren Fisher, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence

“The continuing feedback from the Wounded Warriors Canada Warrior Kids Program has reinforced the growing need for supporting children and youth of our injured Veterans and first responders. Family members of Trauma Exposed Professionals require access to evidence-informed programming that builds knowledge and enhances resilience. We are profoundly grateful for the three-year funding commitment made available by the Veteran Affairs Canada through the Veteran and Family Well-being Fund. This contribution will help us keep pace with the demand for this vital program and ensures participants receive access at no cost to the family.”
