Government of Canada Supports Emerging Technologies for Global Food Security

June 14, 2016 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Western Economic Diversification Canada

The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Western Economic Diversification Canada, announced funding of $15,000 to support the University of Saskatchewan’s Global Institute for Food Security as they deliver the 2016 Emerging Technologies for Global Food Security Conference this week.

The Global Institute for Food Security is focussed on enabling innovation, multidisciplinary research, training and technology development to achieve sustainable crop production, enhanced human and animal nutrition and a prosperous bio-economy in Western Canada.

Stakeholders will collaborate to improve agricultural productivity through innovation in bio-science, crop breeding, genomics, and clean technologies that focus on bio-materials, carbon and greenhouse gas reduction, and other innovative practices.
