Janette Bertrand is a leading figure in Quebec television and journalism who celebrated her 100th birthday in March 2025. Born in 1925 in Montreal, Bertrand has worked as a journalist, radio and television scriptwriter, interviewer and host, actor and playwright. Recognized for her outstanding lifetime contributions, she was named Companion of the Order of Canada, Grande officière and Chevalière de l'Ordre national du Québec. She also received the Governor General’s Performing Arts 2000 Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award.

Bertrand became a powerful voice on social issues like homosexuality, HIV, suicide, sexuality, and violence against women. Her fearless and genuine approach helped educate and shift public discourse in Quebec.

“Feminism is very simple: it's about wanting there to be no injustice between men and women, wanting us to be equal. We don't want [their] place, we just want to be alongside them, but equal.”
