Muriel Duckworth was a tireless advocate for peace and women's human rights. A familiar face at Halifax anti-war rallies, she dedicated more than 50 years of her life to social justice causes. Duckworth founded Nova Scotia Voice of Women for Peace, a branch of Voice of Women Canada. She served as National President of the organization from 1967 to 1971. She also played a major role in the creation of many other organizations dedicated to women, including the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women. For her decades of community service, she has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Pearson Medal of Peace, the Order of Canada and a Governor General's Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case.
