Thérèse Dallaire-Laplante
Thérèse Dallaire-Laplante is a tireless advocate for women's rights and the founder of Québec's first shelter for women and children experiencing gender-based violence. The Carrefour pour Elle, which opened its doors in 1975, quickly became the model for others across Québec. Dallaire-Laplante has supported a wide array of feminist and humanitarian causes throughout her career. She helped to ensure delivery of essential services to women in difficult circumstances by establishing organizations dedicated to mental health, support for single parents and the homeless. Dallaire-Laplante has been recognized for her contributions with many awards and distinctions, including the Ordre national du Québec, the Order of Canada and a Governor General's Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case.
