Acknowledging financial support from Women and Gender Equality Canada

This section explains how organizations that receive financial support from Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE) should acknowledge this support.

Acknowledging WAGE's support demonstrates how federal public funds are spent and reflects the Government of Canada's obligation to be accountable to the Canadian public.

Federal institutions, programs, services and contributions shall be identified in accordance with corporate identity standards for the Government of Canada.

When and where to acknowledge Women and Gender Equality Canada's support

Organizations receiving support from Women and Gender Equality Canada should acknowledge this support in all communication materials and promotional activities, such as advertising, promotional and program materials, public announcements, speeches, websites, social media, etc.

When to acknowledge Women and Gender Equality Canada's support

Once funding for a project is approved, an organization has many opportunities to acknowledge the support it receives, including:

• at the public announcement, launch or conclusion of a project; and
• in media interviews or other media activities.

Even when the Minister or a representative of Women and Gender Equality Canada has publicly announced a project, in the organization makes a subsequent announcement, it needs to acknowledge the federal support in the course of the project and in related promotional activities. Organizations requiring assistance should notify their Women and Gender Equality Canada representative at least 30 days prior to holding any public activity.

Where to acknowledge Women and Gender Equality Canada's support

Organizations receiving support from Women and Gender Equality Canada must acknowledge this contribution in their project-related products, both material and electronic, including:

• advertising (print, television and radio advertising, outdoor and transit advertising, paid announcements)
• published material (news releases, bulletins, brochures, periodicals, books, booklets, leaflets, invitations, posters, public notices, electronic data)
• audio-visual productions and expositions (films, videotapes, videodiscs, PowerPoint presentations, Web sites, displays and exhibits)
• participant handbooks and guides
• certificates, awards and commemorative plaques

How to acknowledge Women and Gender Equality Canada's support

Organizations receiving support from Women and Gender Equality Canada and making announcements, must acknowledge this support by way of a credit line accompanied by Women and Gender Equality Canada's bilingual signature and the Canada wordmark.

Credit lines and signatures

To acknowledge support from Women and Gender Equality Canada, organizations must use the credit line which best corresponds to their situation.

To acknowledge financial versus other forms of support:

• This project has been funded [or: supported] through Women and Gender Equality Canada's Women's Program.

Variations:

• This project has been funded [or: supported] by Women and Gender Equality Canada.
• This project has been funded [or: supported] in part by Women and Gender Equality Canada.
• [Name of organization] acknowledges the financial support [or: the support] of Women and Gender Equality Canada.

Example: The Go-Getters acknowledges the support of Women and Gender Equality Canada.

The credit line must be accompanied by Women and Gender Equality Canada's signature (the Canadian flag followed by Women and Gender Equality Canada's bilingual title) and by the Canada wordmark.

If the document is mainly in French, the order of the titles in the signature is reversed:

If more than one federal department or agency have provided support, the "Government of Canada" signature and the Canada wordmark must be used.

When Women and Gender Equality Canada is the only federal contributor and there is insufficient space for a credit line, the document must at least bear WAGE's signature and the Canada wordmark.

The Canada wordmark can be used as the sole identifier of federal support as long as the credit line makes reference to Women and Gender Equality Canada or to the Government of Canada.

Note: Government of Canada signatures may not be altered in any way, must be given equal prominence to those of similar contributors, and must appear as distinct elements in a reasonable amount of white space. Their use and placement must not convey the impression of government ownership. The inclusion of Government of Canada signatures and the Canada wordmark does not constitute an official endorsement of a project, an organization, its stances or its policies.

Order of the official languages in signatures

The titles of federal institutions must appear in both official languages in a side-by-side format in all signatures. The English or French title appears on the left in accordance with the principal language of the product. In a mainly French product, such as a press release, the French title should appear on the left, followed by the English title on the right. In a mainly English product, the order is reversed.

Ministerial messages

Organizations sometimes present or take part in public events when a program is published and where free space is reserved for a message from the Minister for Women and Gender Equality. To arrange for Women and Gender Equality Canada to draft such a message, please contact your WAGE representative or the office of the Minister at least 30 days in advance.
