Backgrounder – Government of Canada advances equality in New Brunswick with funding for six organizations

December 4, 2023 – Fredericton, New Brunswick — Women and Gender Equality Canada

Today, Women and Gender Equality Canada announced close to $1.8M for six organizations in New Brunswick.

The following organizations are receiving funding through the 2SLGBTQI+ Community Capacity Fund to build the capacity of 2SLGBTQI+ community organizations and networks to advance equality across Canada:

Chroma: Pride, Inclusion and Equity, Inc.

Saint John, NB

Project name: Increasing Organizational Effectiveness: Enhancing Advocacy and Sustaining Community for the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community

Funding amount: $109,850

Le Rendez-vous de la fierté Acadie Love

Caraquet, NB

Project name: Assurer la croissance des communautés 2ELGBTQIA+ francophones minoritaires dans la Péninsule acadienne

Funding amount: $53,800

Alter Acadie NB

Caraquet, NB

Project name: Renforcement des capacités organisationnelles d’Alter Acadie NB pour mieux servir la communauté 2ELGBTQIA+ au Nouveau-Brunswick

Funding amount: $388,646

The following organization is receiving funding through the LGBTQ2 Projects Fund to support community-informed projects that will address key issues faced by 2SLGBTQI+ communities:

Project name: Genuine and Equitable Inclusion of 2SLGBTQI+ Communities in NB

Funding amount: $314,660

The following Indigenous and 2SLGBTQQIA+ organization is receiving funding to increase their capacity to provide gender-based violence prevention programming to address the root causes of violence:

Indigenous Women's Association of the Maliseet and Mi'Kmaq Territories Inc.   

Fredericton, NB

Project name: Empowering IWWT, Countering Violence against Wabanaki Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People

Funding amount: $247,256

The following organization is receiving funding to conduct community-based research to help address the needs of those that are at risk of gender-based violence or are underserved when they experience it:

Project name: A Multi-Community Approach: Addressing Barriers to GBV Services for Mi’gmaq Women

Funding amount: $398,682

The following organization is receiving funding through the Women’s Program to address systemic barriers to women’s equality:  

New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity Inc.

Moncton, NB

Project name: Pay Equity is Coming to Town
