La ministre de l'Environnement du Canada, l'honorable Leona Aglukkaq, a annoncé aujourd'hui que le projet minier BlackRock, situé au Québec, n'est pas susceptible d'entraîner des effets environnementaux négatifs importants, compte tenu des mesures d'atténuation proposées dans le rapport d'étude approfondie. La ministre a renvoyé le projet à l'autorité responsable, Pêches et Océans Canada, pour qu'elle prenne les mesures qui s'imposent.
La ministre a pris sa décision après avoir tenu compte du rapport d'étude approfondie et des commentaires reçus du public et des groupes autochtones à propos du rapport.
Ce projet a été évalué à l'aide d'une approche scientifique en vertu de la Loi canadienne sur l'évaluation environnementale antérieure.

Canada's Environment Minister, the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, announced today that the proposed BlackRock Mining Project, located in Quebec, is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects when the mitigation measures described in the Comprehensive Study Report are taken into account. The Minister has referred the project back to the responsible authority, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, for appropriate action.
In reaching her decision, the Minister considered the Comprehensive Study Report and the comments received from the public and Aboriginal groups on the report.
This project was assessed using a science-based approach in accordance with the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
