Letter to Minister of Justice

November 26, 2019

The Honourable David Lametti, P.C., Q.C., M.P.
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada
Department of Justice Canada
284 Wellington Street
Ottawa ON K1A 0H8

Dear Minister:

Please accept my congratulations on your recent re-appointment as Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. As the newly appointed Chief Administrator of the Administrative Tribunals Support Service of Canada (ATSSC), it is my pleasure to introduce myself, and provide you with the most recent information about the organization.

As you are aware, the ATSSC is responsible for providing support services and facilities to 11 federal administrative tribunals by way of a single, integrated organization. Although we are part of the Justice portfolio, but operate at arm’s length from the Justice Department, we greatly appreciate the support provided by the Minister.

Recently, the ATSSC celebrated its fifth anniversary. I am proud to say that, since our inception in 2014, we have worked diligently to try to meet the needs of the administrative tribunals, helping them to improve access to justice for Canadians.

The enclosed briefing binder provides more detailed information about the ATSSC and the tribunals we serve. We are currently preparing a request for additional funding, for consideration in the 2020 Federal Budget. A note regarding this is included in the binder. I look forward to receiving your support for this endeavour.

I am available to brief you in person, at your convenience, about our organization, our priorities, and, in particular, our request for additional funds in the upcoming Budget.

Respectfully,

Orlando Da Silva
Encl.
