Many domestic operations in Canada involve protecting or rescuing Canadian citizens who are endangered by natural disasters such as floods, ice storms or forest fires or contributing to vital domestic security operations.
Recent domestic and continental operations include, but are not limited to, the following:

1997 | Assistance | Support during the “Flood of the Century” in southern Manitoba — the most severe flood on the Red River since 1826. |
January 1998 | Recuperation | Support following ice storms and widespread, long-lasting power outages in eastern Canada. At the time, Op Recuperation represented the largest deployment of Canadian Armed Forces personnel since the Korean War. |
September 2005 | Unison | Canada’s contribution to rescue, recovery and flood-relief efforts on the Gulf Coast of the United States following Hurricane Katrina. |
Recurring since 2006 | Caribbe | Canada’s contribution to an ongoing U.S.-led, multi-national effort to stop drug trafficking in the waters of the Caribbean Basin and east Pacific. |

September–October 2010 | Lama | Support to Canadian Armed Forces’ relief efforts following Hurricane Igor, especially in the Bonavista and Burin Peninsulas. Op Lama is the code name for military support to civil authorities for hurricane recovery efforts anywhere in Canada. |
February 2010 | Podium | Support to RCMP-led security for Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games – Canada’s most complex domestic operation as of 2013. |
June 2010 | Cadence | Support to RCMP-led security operations surrounding the G8 and G20 summits in Ontario. |
May 2011 | Lustre | Support to flood mitigation and civilian evacuation in Manitoba. |

DID YOU KNOW…
The Air Force has been resupplying Canadian Forces Station Alert in Nunavut, the most northerly permanently inhabited place in the world, for more than five decades. On average, Operation Boxtop moves about 375,000 kilograms of freight and 1.8 million litres of fuel into the station, which is only 817 kilometres from the North Pole.
In 2009, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) took command of Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert and it now falls under command of 8 Wing Trenton, Ontario.
