Canada remains committed to promoting the peaceful use of space and responsible behaviours, as well as preserving the stability, security, and sustainability of the outer space environment.

The Canadian Space Operations Centre (CANSpOC) was stood up in 2012. The CANSpOC provides space domain awareness and the integration of space-based support for military operations.

The CANSpOC provides a 24/7 “space watch” within the Canadian Forces Integrated Command Centre (CFICC) to monitor and report on space domain awareness, in close co-ordination with allies and partners, which includes:

  • threats of debris and collision
  • missile warning
  • space weather
  • status of space mission systems

The Centre coordinates information and contributes data and analysis to the Combined Space Operations Centre .

The CANSpOC works directly with the Sensor Systems Operations Centre, located at 22 Wing North Bay, Canadian Air Defence Sector (CADS), to support and optimize Sapphire satellite operations and with the Satellite Communications Operations Centre in Ottawa, which is the responsibility of the 764 Communication Squadron within the Information Management Group.
