About
5 Wing is located at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Goose Bay in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador. It is under the operational command of 1 Canadian Air Division. The Commander of 5 Wing is also Commander of CFB Goose Bay and is responsible for all base administrative, operational, and logistical support.
The location of 5 Wing/CFB Goose Bay in northeastern Canada helps the CAF and NORAD protect North American airspace.
It’s unique location and effective training facilities are regularly used to train CAF members and international partners in support of NATO and NORAD.

Badge and motto
SULIAKAKATIGëJUT ("Working Together" in Inuktitut)
The Canada Goose refers to the fact that 5 Wing is located at Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador. The badge includes five spruce trees along with symbols for land and sea recalling the Labrador coast.
History
5 Wing was created in 1941 for anti-submarine patrol aircraft and staging aircraft going to Britain. During the Second World War, a total of 22,500 Canadian- and American-built fighters and bombers staged through Goose Bay on their way to Europe. Read more about the history of 5 Wing/CFB Goose Bay.

Flying a drone
Civilian drone operations within 3 nautical miles (5.6 kilometers) of an aerodrome under the authority of the Department of National Defence (MND) requires pre-authorization. For more information about these zones and how to properly access them, please consult the National Research Council of Canada Drone Site Selection tool and section 3.2.35 of the Remotely Piloted Aircraft chapter of Transport Canada Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM). Civilian drone operators with the required licence and registered drone who are seeking to fly within a Wing aerodrome must contact the Wing in advance for approval.
