Colonel Aaron T. Spott, CD
Colonel Aaron Spott was born and raised in Naicam, Saskatchewan. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) under the Regular Officer Training Program in 1991, and attended both Royal Roads Military College in Victoria, BC and the Royal Military College in Kingston, ON, graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
Following specialty training, Colonel Spott was posted to 5 Wing Goose Bay, NL where he served as the Mobile Support Equipment Officer (MSEO) and Wing Transportation Officer. In 1997, he was posted to 14 Wing Greenwood, NS and served as the MSEO, Wing Operations Logistics Officer and Wing Traffic Officer. He also deployed to Port-au-Prince, Haiti on Op CONSTABLE as the Logistics Group Transport Platoon Commander and Contingent Movements Officer. Following a 1998 promotion to Captain, he was posted in April 1999 to 1 Air Movements Squadron (1 Air Mov Sqn) at 17 Wing Winnipeg, MB as the 8 Mobile Air Movements Section (MAMS) Officer. While at 1 Air Mov Sqn he deployed as the Officer in Charge MAMS for Ops BOXTOP, PALLADIUM, TOUCAN and ECLIPSE.
In 2001, Colonel Spott was posted to the A4 Logistics (A4 Log) Directorate at 1 Canadian Air Division Headquarters/Canadian NORAD Region (1 CAD HQ/CANR). Promoted to Major in June 2005, he assumed the duties of A4 Movements. In February 2007, Colonel Spott returned from Operation AUGURAL, a 6 month tour in Darfur as a military advisor in the Forward Mission Headquarters of the African Union’s Mission in Sudan.
Colonel Spott was appointed as Commanding Officer of 2 Air Movements Squadron at 8 Wing Trenton, ON in July 2007. Following a hectic three year tour supporting CAF operations worldwide, he attended the Canadian Forces Staff College’s Joint Command and Staff Program in Toronto, ON graduating in June 2011 with a Masters in Defence Studies. He then proceeded to Canada Command in Ottawa, ON as the J4 Plans/Movements for the Deputy Chief of Staff Support. Promoted in June of 2012, he assumed the command appointment of Wing Administration Officer at 17 Wing Winnipeg. In July of 2014, he relocated across the runway to 1 CAD HQ/CANR to fill the A4 Transport and Electrical and Mechanical Engineering billet within A4 Log. He deployed in November 2015 as the Commanding Officer of the Joint Task Force Support Component of Joint Task Force – Iraq, spending 7 months in Kuwait in support of Operation IMPACT.
Colonel Spott was posted to Kingston, Ontario in July 2017 and was appointed as Deputy Commanding Officer of the Canadian Forces Joint Operational Support Group. After one busy year, he was posted to Ottawa as Director of Air Personnel Management on the Chief of the Air Force Staff, and was promoted to his current rank in October 2018. Moving yet again back to Winnipeg in July of 2019, he was appointed as the RCAF Director of Logistics and 1 CAD A4 Logistics.
On 29 July 2022, he was honored with the great privilege of assuming command of Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg / 17 Wing.
