Chief Warrant Officer Daniel McCutcheon

Originally from Cowansville in the Eastern Townships, Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Daniel McCutcheon joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in October 1990 as an Integrated Systems Technician. From October 1990 to July 1992, he completed his basic military qualification, second language course and basic electronics training at the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu CAF base.

In July 1992, he was transferred to the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering, Borden, to complete his Integrated Systems Technician training.

In February 1993, he was transferred to 407 Long Range Patrol Squadron in Comox, BC, where he worked successively in 1st and 2nd line maintenance.

In 2001, he was transferred to 438 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in Saint-Hubert, where he worked in 1st line maintenance, then as an avionics instructor on the CH-146 Griffon and night vision goggles.

In May 2009, he was posted to the military base in Geilenkirchen, Germany, as a crew member and communications technician for the Airborne Early Warning and Control System. He oversaw 2 Squadron Operations Room, Canadian Operations Coordinator for Standardization of the Canadian Component - NATO Airborne Early Warning Force pre-deployment training, and instructor for future communications technicians. During this assignment, he participated in Operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOUR and was deployed on Operation UNIFIED PROTECTOR. On his return to Canada, he had completed over 800 flying hours and participated in more than 40 NATO operational missions.

In July 2012, he was transferred to the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School at Saint-Jean Garrison. He will hold the positions of Platoon Commander, Standards Manager, as well as Projects and Development Section Manager.

Promoted to Master Warrant Officer in July 2016, he was transferred to Ottawa, where he participated in the development of the Cyclone helicopter maintenance program. In June 2017, he returned to 438 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in Saint-Hubert as Chief Instructor.

Promoted to CWO in June 2020, he served as the CWO of 430 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in Valcartier. In July 2021, he transferred to the Osside Institute, where he served as Director of the Intermediate Leadership Program and Director of Standards.

In July 2024, CWO McCutcheon was appointed to his current position as CWO of 19 Wing Comox.

CWO Daniel McCutcheon is married to Nathalie Viens. They have two children, Audrey and Jérémy.
