5 Wing Commander
Lieutenant Colonel (LCol) Aleem Sajan was born in Iringa, Tanzania and immigrated to Canada in 1993. He holds a Bachelor of Science, a Master's in Defense Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada and a Master's in Public Administration from Dalhousie University. He is a graduate of the Joint Command and Staff College from the Canadian Forces College. He continues to serve as an Aerospace Engineer in the Royal Canadian Air Force with over 23 years of service over multiple postings and deployments across Canada and abroad.
He served as a Junior Maintenance Officer in Operation GRIZZLY during the G8 summit in 2002, as a United Nation observer supporting Operation SAFARI in the Sudan in 2005, as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer with 407 Squadron during Operation PODIUM, in support of the 2010 Winter Olympics and deployed in 2012 as an advisor to the Afghanistan Air Force supporting Operation ATTENTION, Canada's contribution to the NATO Training Mission. He has also served as an Aircraft Maintenance Services Officer with 14 Air Maintenance Squadron (AMS), and as a Senior Aircraft Maintenance Officer with 405 Long Range Patrol Squadron where he supported initial airworthiness accreditation of the Squadron to integrate 1st line maintenance and supported numerous missions including Operation IMPACT, Canada's contribution to combat ISIL in Iraq. He served at the RCAF Operational Headquarters as the Air Maintenance Standards Office in 2016.
Recently LCol Sajan returned from a three year Out of Canada posting as the CC177 Globemaster Weapon System Manager and Senior Design Engineer representing Canada’s interest in the C17 Globemaster Virtual Fleet at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, USA, to take on his position as Commanding Officer of 14 AMS in July 2021.
LCol Sajan assumed Command of 5 Wing Goose Bay on 21 June 2023. LCol Sajan, his wife, Amy, and daughter, Anaya, are very excited to experience all of what Labrador has to offer.
