Chief Warrant Officer Gail Roberts

Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Gail Roberts is a Signals Intelligence Specialist. She joined the Canadian Armed Forces in January 1991 and completed her basic training at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Cornwallis, NS. She then completed her trade qualification at Canadian Forces School of Communications and Electronics at Kingston, ON.

Her first posting was to CFB Gander, NL, working in the High Frequency Direction Finding section. While posted to Gander, she had the opportunity to experience life in the Arctic and completed a six-month tour of Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Alert. She was then posted to CFS Leitrim and completed satellite communications training, working in that section until a posting to 21 Electronic Warfare Regiment at Kingston, ON.

Upon completion of this posting and a promotion to Master Corporal, CWO Roberts was posted back to CFS Leitrim where she obtained extensive Geo-Spatial training and work experience. During this time, she completed her first tour of Afghanistan.

CWO Roberts was promoted to Sergeant and employed as the Duty Shift Supervisor at CFS Leitrim. After eight months in this position, she deployed to Afghanistan on her second tour. Upon returning from this tour, CWO Roberts was employed as the 1 Squadron Coordination Cell Supervisor at CFS Leitrim.

In July of 2012, CWO Roberts was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer and selected to represent Canada in the Personnel Exchange Program at NSA/CSS Hawaii where she was the Canadian Forces Information Operations Group Detachment Senior.

CWO Roberts was promoted to the rank of Master Warrant Officer in July 2016 and posted back to CFS Leitrim as the 1 Squadron Sergeant Major. After two years in this position, she was posted to Canadian Joint Operations Command Headquarters in Ottawa, as a member of the Canadian Forces Integrated Command Centre Operations Watch.

In 2019, she was promoted to her current rank of CWO and posted to Director General Information Capabilities Force Development in Ottawa, as the Senior Occupational Advisor for the Cyber Operator trade and a member of the Cyber Operations Force Development team.

In 2022, CWO Roberts was posted to Canadian Forces Language School in Gatineau, QC, where she spent a year on a French language course. Upon completion she was appointed to her current position as the CWO of 7 Wing (Space) in Ottawa, under 3 Canadian Space Division.

CWO Roberts has been awarded the Special Services Medal, South-West Asia Medal, General Campaign Star and the Canadian Forces Decoration second clasp.
